 What is IRC:
Internet Relay Chat (IRC) is an application layer protocol that facilitates communication in the form of text. IRC is mainly designed for group communication in discussion forums, called channels, but also allows one-on-one communication via private messages   as well as chat and data transfer  including file sharing.

This blog is related to my experience using IRC: How I installed the IRC client and get to know how to use it. it is very easy and beneficial to me:

Freenode:
Image result for Freenode                            Freenode, formerly known as Open Projects Network, is an IRC network used to discuss peer-directed projects. Their servers are all accessible from the domain name chat.freenode.net and irc.freenode.net, which load balances connections by using the actual servers in rotation.
An IRC network providing discussion facilities for the Free and Open Source Software communities, not-for-profit organizations, and related communities. In 1998, the network had about 200 users and less than 20 channels. Fifteen years later, the network peaks at over 80,000 users. freenode provides facilities to a variety of groups and organizations
freenode is run entirely by volunteers hailing from the wider FOSS communities which we serve. Our combined network staff and development base is made up of around 40 dedicated men and women.

How did i learn :

Although there was a lot of IRC clients like IRSSI, HydraIRC, X-chat, mIRC etc. but i preferred X-chat, it was very helpful . I use it for my conversations also, it is very easy to understand as well as to control it also.

X-chat:

Image result for xchat logo               X-Chat was one of the first real contenders to mIRC. Today, it is one of the most well-known IRC clients on the web. The project is open source so not only can X-Chat be used on Windows, it can be used on Linux, too.

I download x-chat as :

Registering the IRC nick name:
It is very to register your nick name .I register my nick name in x-chat as 'HPreet' as:

How I add the Fossasia channel:
I add the fossasia channel as '#fossasia' as:

Conversation on IRC:

I often use to communicate on IRC. Firstly i communicate with 'Fossasia'. I filled the channel name as '#fossasia'.I start the conversation as ' Hello, glad to join the FOSSASIA community!' as:

Advantages:It provide us many advantages:
  1. IRC;s channel paradigm is very flexible i.e. it allows for real time discussion with up to hundred of people at once
  2.   IRC is decentralized: There is no single company controlling IRC (in contrast to gchat or Facebook chat or AIM, etc.) Therefore, anyone can set up their own server and use it however they like.
  3.  IRC' s channel paradigm is very flexible and robust: allows for real-time discussion with up to hundreds of people at once.
  4.  Privacy: IRC has the concept of access levels and complex channel modes. For example, users may be banned from a channel based on their IP address, or a channel may be secret (not showing up in the list of channels on the server) or private and require an invitation or a secret code to enter.
  5.  Meeting new people: persons are able to meet and communicate with new people all over the world on IRC
   Conclusion :
In the end I will conclude that IRC is very helpful for organisations as well as for new developing technical world. It is very easy way to get connected with your mates as well as organisations. So one must have to try this.
